Hydroxyethyl cellulose and methyl cellulose are frequently used with hydrophobic drugs in capsule formulations, to improve the drugs' dissolution in the gastrointestinal fluids. This process is known as hydrophilization. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is the main ingredient in the lubricant KY Jelly.
